Meet Dr. Scott Kloorfain

Just like that…I bent over to pick up a tennis ball, and then I was in so much pain I couldn’t move!

Dr. Scott Kloorfain

My back had always bothered me growing up, but the doctor had never found anything wrong and just called it “growing pains”. Then at the age of 22, I bent over to pick up a tennis ball, just like I had millions of times before, but this time was different. The severe back pain was so bad I was unable to walk for weeks. I was examined by several medical specialists, but none of them could find the cause of my pain, nor offer any treatment that could help me. Just when it appeared I was out of options, a friend of the family suggested I see his chiropractor. I was skeptical, since no other doctor could find the problem, but I was also desperate. So I drove over 50 miles to see Dr. Striano. His chiropractic examination revealed a spinal problem none of the other medical specialists had found previously. It was a miracle! After the first adjustment, it was like someone had removed a knife from my back, and within a few weeks, chiropractic adjustments enabled me to walk almost pain-free. Without chiropractic treatment, I don’t know where I’d be today. It was a simple decision; right then and there, I decided to become a chiropractor.

A Chiropractic Education

After graduating from Rutgers College, I enrolled in Columbia Institute of Chiropractic, which eventually became New York Chiropractic College. I was impressed by the intensity and quality of the chiropractic education I received. Not only was the faculty composed of chiropractors, but we were taught by medical doctors, research scientists, and psychologists also. The most exciting part of my education was being taught by Dr. Thomas Whitehorne and Dr. William Cirino, two chiropractors who had trained with the originator of Chiropractic, B.J. Palmer! Their never-ending stories about the early days of Chiropractic and it’s development were invaluable. I discovered that my chiropractic education was not simply to train me for my profession, but the principles and philosophy I learned changed the way my family and I have lived our lives.

My Insight to Chiropractic as a Patient

The fact that I was a patient before I became a chiropractor, although extremely painful at the time, has enabled me to truly relate to the health problems and fears new patients are experiencing when they come to our office. All of my examination procedures are geared to both alleviating those fears and identifying the true cause of their health problems. I treat my patients with the same consideration I found so reassuring when I was a patient. All of our examination and treatment procedures are designed to help the patient understand all of the factors involved in their condition. We encourage our patients to ask questions and we spend all the time necessary for them to completely understand everything necessary for their recovery. People come to our office seeking help with all kinds of problems, from children’s ear infections, colic, and injuries on the playground to adult problems like headaches, back pain, allergies and other health issues, not usually associated with chiropractic treatment. I am most proud of the fact that many of my patients I treated as children have trusted me with protecting the health of their own children.

On a Personal Note…

My wife, Cathy, and I have been married for 33 years. We began dating in college and have been together ever since. We’ve been lucky enough to have two great kids, Kerri and Kyle. Kerri earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Bucknell University and currently works as an administrator at Lehigh University. Kyle recently graduated from the University of Delaware. My family has always been the focal point of my life, and when I wasn’t in the office, I could always be found coaching soccer and baseball, attending choral concerts, or supporting the kids’ Odyssey of the Mind teams. Our family vacations were always a lot of fun and we enjoyed going to new places; something we always looked forward to. Now that the kids are grown and away from home, I am rediscovering free time for the first time in twenty-four years. I am a big fan of all kinds of music, sports and especially the New York Mets. It sounds corny, but my favorite way to relax is to go to a Mets game, putter around the house, visit the kids, or go out to a quiet dinner with Cathy and some of our close friends.

I am not just a chiropractor. I am a chiropractic patient and owe my continued good health and lack of back pain to regular chiropractic treatment. I know how important it is to maintain my good health and weekly chiropractic adjustments are an integral part of my life and the lives of my family. In fact, when the kids come home, they usually haven’t even unpacked when they are asking to be adjusted. Chiropractic is a vital part of our lives. In addition, I work to stay healthy by regularly walking and using the Total Gym, and carefully watching the types of food I eat. My family and I do not take medication, antibiotics, or pain relievers to cover up symptoms. We have not received any vaccinations, choosing to avoid the serious dangers and risks associated with the inoculations. Essentially, we take a proactive approach to health. We choose to follow a lifestyle that will enhance and protect our good health, rather than abuse our bodies and have to treat the sickness and symptoms that occur as a result of neglect. I tell my patients the same thing. It’s your choice: either spend the time to protect your good health now with chiropractic care and a healthy lifestyle, or wait and have to spend the time trying to regain your health, once you lose it.
